Opened in 1986, The Community Child Care Centre at Flinders Medical Centre is a 72 place, not-for-profit Centre that provides high quality care for children from 6 weeks to school commencement.
Julianne Docherty Reg Psych, B.B.Sc (Hons-Psych), Dip T (E.C.E),
Julianne believes that it is strong relationships that form the basis of children’s emotional resilience and cognitive development. It is this belief that underpins the Centre’s overall philosophy. After commencing at FMC.C.C.C.C in 1986, Julianne embarked on the lifelong process of designing an early childhood programme that enabled children the time and space to enjoy, learn and grow in a socially rich and extremely well resourced environment.
As a Registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Psychological Society, she is a strong advocate for the mental health and well-being of children and their families and has a particular interest in Autism Spectrum Disorder. In addition to her role as a Director, Julianne is a clinician in private practice 2 days per week.
Martin Kenny (B.S.Sc Child Dev.)
Martin has dedicated his working life to early childhood education. In addition to his experience managing other children’s services around Adelaide, Martin has traveled extensively around the world including China, Europe and South America, gaining insight into the cultural variations and best practices of similar ECE programmes along the way. In 2014, Martin returned from a study tour of the world renown, Reggio Emilia schools in Northern Italy and has spent time in ECE programmes in Dublin, London, Hong Kong and Guangzhou, China.
As the full-time Director, Martin’s particular focus is on the importance of science as a construct for scaffolding knowledge and using the scientific process as a template for lifelong learning. His interest lies in understanding what captures the natural curiosity of children and extending the limitless process of discovery.
Both Julianne and Martin have worked at FMC.C.C.C.C for the past 30 years in which time they have seen hundreds of children experience enriching programmes, make lifelong friendships and develop the skills and abilities to prepare them for successful transition to school and beyond.
Unparalleled child/staff ratios, expansive natural outdoor environments and the ability to retain highly skilled and qualified staff has meant long waiting times for positions at the Centre and continues to keep FMC.C.C.C.C at the forefront of early education and care.
The Centre is open from 6.30am until 6.00pm Monday to Friday.
